Alison loves encouraging others to express themselves through poetry. Author of ‘The Handy Little Book of Tips for Poets’, she’s taught creative writing and poetry writing for 25 years.
I have a particular interest in the dynamics of set form poetry, constructing the sonnet, villanelle, terza rima, and the other 250+ forms. Another speciality is finding and developing ideas, and exercises to pep up the writing process. As a competition winner, organiser and adjudicator, I can offer specialist advice on this important area of the poet's life; and as a professional public speaker I can advise on planning a programme and delivering talks and readings.
Poetry has been at the centre of my life for as long as I can remember - reading it, writing it and writing about it. For me, poetry is a way of making sense of the world around and the universe within. Working on it is rewarding, therapeutic and exciting. I’ve taught creative writing and poetry writing for 25 years, and love encouraging others to express themselves through this powerful medium.
