Food scientist and nutritionist Audrey has years of experience helping children eat healthily. She’s co-author of ‘The top 100 omega-3 recipes’ and has contributed to multiple nutrition-related articles.
• Omega-3 fats and their benefits to health: how to incorporate more into your diet, recipes and top tips. • Everyday recipes and menu ideas based on dietary advice you may have received or that you wish to follow, whether it’s something simple such as getting more fruit and vegetables into your child's diet or eating more antioxidant-rich foods. • Food labels: decoding, explaining what all the elements are, how to interpret them according to your needs. • Food additives and ingredients: which ones to avoid and good alternatives. • Basic food and nutrition knowledge for students: how to equip them with the right information when they leave home to go away to study. Everything from shopping, budgeting, basic cooking through to their specific nutrition requirements
I’ve worked with food for over 17 years and in the process, gained an in-depth insight into how it’s produced, packaged and labelled for consumers. My background in nutrition has also enabled me to focus on how these foods impact on our health and how to interpret labels to best effect.
While on maternity leave/career break, a dietitian friend and I came up with idea for the omega-3 cookbook. We felt there was nothing on the shelves that helped people take the advice to eat more omega 3 and translate it into practical solutions. As well as becoming experts on the subject of omega-3 fats and their benefits to health, we spent much time in the kitchen perfecting and tasting our recipes. Our book, The Top 100 Omega-3 Recipes was published in January 2009.
This experience has led me to believe that there’s often a big gap between knowing what’s good for you and how to actually incorporate it into what we eat.
I have an uncomplicated style where clarity is paramount. I don't speak in scientific language and am accomplished at explaining and helping clients with some of the more complicated health messages we’re bombarded with. My focus is always on eating better for everyday situations so that they become great habits that you don't even think about.
I’m a regular expert contributor to magazines and newspapers and have also appeared as an expert for BBC2's E Numbers documentary series. I’m currently working on another BBC documentary about healthy foods and labels.
