Specialities

Psychosexual therapy defines the type of psychotherapy which deals specifically with sexual problems or relationship difficulties. It focuses on the specific sexual or relational issue presented by the client. It’s a dynamic form of psychotherapy, usually short term, with a good rate of success. Whenever possible, I prefer to work with a couple to help them resolve their problem. But I can work just as well with an individual, depending on their issue and requirements. I can help with these types of problems: In women: painful sex; vaginal dryness; decreased libido; sex phobia; feelings of unworthiness; mood swings; depression; pre-menopausal symptoms; communication difficulties within the couple; relational problems. These issues can bring disruption to family life, cause a rift in a relationship, give rise to a general sense of growing discontent, shame and frustration. In men: performance anxiety; erectile dysfunction (or impotence); premature ejaculation; retarded ejaculation; decreased libido. All these can lead to depression, increased levels of stress, feelings of unworthiness and inadequacy, poor performance at work and problems in relationships.

In her own words

I am a trained psychotherapist and registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

My first training was in 1991, and was a four-year course in humanistic/transpersonal psychotherapy.

I’ve subsequently taken a postgraduate MSc in psychosexual therapy, a four-year course in transactional analysis and postgraduate training in eye movement desensitisation (EMDR).

I’ve worked for Oxfordshire County Council for 13 years as a psychotherapist in its employee assisted programme, offering short-time counselling and addressing a wide range of issues, from personal/existential problems to work issues and conflicts.

As part of an internship during my training I also worked with patients from psychiatric hospitals, and at St Bartholomew’s Medical Centre in Oxford.

I run a busy private practice for clients with various forms of depression or other psychiatric conditions and psychosexual or relational difficulties.

My wide professional background allows me to integrate the various disciplines and knowledge and to tailor therapy according to my client’s needs and inclination.

I was born in 1950 and have a grown-up son. My background includes a previous career in marketing and teaching.
