As a natural parenting and products expert, Eva advises new parents on how to be greener. This ranges from helping them get expert breastfeeding support to suggesting the most ethical products to buy.
There’s a lot to think about when you’re preparing for a new arrival. What I do is take the stress out of making green and ethical product as well as natural, attachment or continuum-style parenting choices. My business, Born, has been established 11 years, with shops in London and Bristol. We present customers with well-chosen green, ethical and gorgeous baby products. Being green doesn't mean you have to compromise on style and function.
What do I mean by natural parenting? Yes, it is to do with being mindful of the products you buy but it’s also about being conscious of the long-term implications your parenting choices will have on your child. A human baby is born with the need to be breastfeed its mother milk, to be held a lot and to be kept close by at nighttime. Millions of years of evolution have made it that way. What I can do is give you some pointers as to how to do that safely and easily so that you can enjoy the experience of being with this new person unhindered by what other people think or say. Your relationship with your baby is going to be the strongest you’ll ever have with another person, and it can be a joy if you allow it to be and go with the flow of how nature intended.
The first thing you need to know about me is that I’m a mother of two - a teenage daughter and a son five years younger than his big sister. I say this because there are lots of so-called experts who don't have hands-on experience with their own children - I'm not one of them.
I’m passionate about enabling parents-to-be to make informed choices about the way they parent. This includes the things they buy to care for their babies to the way they parent on a day-to-day, hour-by-hour basis. Like so many, my life-changing journey began with the pregnancy of my first child.
I became acutely aware of the environmental issues surrounding having a child. It did not seem right, let alone healthy, to wrap her up in a nappy containing chemicals - and it was an incredible waste of money, plus a huge amount of waste.
