An Independent Breastfeeding Counsellor with over 16 years experience, Geraldine’s advice has helped thousands of mums breastfeed successfully worldwide through her Let’s Breastfeed company and London based private practice.
I'm an expert who specialises in providing:
Hello, my name’s Geraldine Miskin and I’m a leading independent breastfeeding specialist with 18 years’ experience of helping mums like you enjoy comfortable feeds. Many women come to me when they’re at their most desperate: they want to breastfeed and call me after everything else they’ve tried has failed. Perhaps just like you’re feeling right now. And I’ve showed them how to turn it all from a fraught, painful endurance to a loving, nurturing experience.
I developed the Miskin Method, after years of scientific research and hundreds of face-to-face consultations with mums and know that my methods work. What makes the Miskin Method different? My expert help is all about you as an individual. The reason that standard breastfeeding advice handed out to all new mums doesn’t always work, is because every mum and baby is different.
The things that make you and your baby unique all play a part in feeding success, in particular your shape and size, particularly the shape and size of your breasts. We’ll also consider your baby’s age, size, palette shape and birth history. The Miskin Method is all about practical solutions that are tailor-made to your own needs and lifestyle. They also take into account your personal reasons for wanting to feed this way, how long you want to continue it for and whether you want to do it exclusively or with bottle feeds.
With my specialist support, you can feel more confident without having to miss out on vital sleep, or follow an impractical ‘routine’ that somehow still doesn’t seem to work for you. You also won’t be asked to tolerate pain in order to successfully breastfeed. I will work with your individual anatomy and baby’s needs to ensure that you have access to methods that still deliver good nutrition. I don't simply believe in the importance of breast milk - breastfeeding is best for both mum and baby. However when this is not possible, every drop of breast milk a baby receives is valuable whether it is from the breast, bottle, through a nipple shield or in combination with formula.
The Miskin Method enables me to provide expert help to mums across the globe through Greatvine phone consultations and/or email support. I’m here for effective advice, whatever stage you are at, however you would like to breastfeed and for however long you would like to do it. My aim is to ensure that you achieve the rewarding experience you have probably been looking for up until now. So please, do give me a call; until then, my warmest wishes,
Geraldine

"I've had face to face consultation with Geraldine as well as telephone consultation. I have been extremely happy with her advice on both occasions. I would recommend her to anyone who is having problems with breastfeeding. "

"Geraldine helped me to breastfeed both my sons and I can honestly say I couldn't have done it without her. With my first boy, I was a bewildered new mother, unsure of myself and how to get my baby feeding but worst of all, I was surrounded by conflicting - and often stern - advice from midwives, health visitors and doctors. Geraldine was kind and calm and it was such a relief to have one trusted person to turn to. She helped me again with my second son - who was an entirely different kind of baby, with a different feeding style and so different problems arose. When you are tearful and hormonal after the birth of a baby, Geraldine's gentle, kindly and confident approach is just what you need. I have recommended Geraldine again and again - to my colleagues at work, to all my NCT mums, to my neighbours and friends. Her's is the first number I call from hospital! "The chat I had with Geraldine was really really helpful. I got several ideas of what I could try to get Henning sleeping through the night and actually after a couple of days we now had 4 nights in a row where he actually slept through. It was so helpful ! Thank you very much again !"

"I was literally at my lowest ebb when a friend recommended Geraldine to me. I had been breastfeeding for 6 weeks and the pain had got so bad it felt like broken glass every time my baby latched on. I spent my time between each feed crying because I was dreading the next feed so much and was just about to give up. Then Geraldine arrived and quite literally changed our lives. Her gentle touch and incredible understanding meant we were quickly back on track. Breastfeeding would have been a completely miserable and short lived experience for me had I not met Geraldine and I now recommend her whenever I can."

"I found Geraldine when I was searching Google for a lactation consultant based in London. At the time, my daughter was about 5 weeks old and I was experiencing a lot of nursing problems. My daughter had thrush, it was extremely difficult to get her to latch on, I had a very heavy milk supply, and I was feeling a lot of pain when my daughter nursed. I had already consulted with local health visitors and one lactation consultant, but their advice was not making a significant difference.
Geraldine was very user-friendly and I was intrigued by the possibility that the Sore Nipples Guide might help me diagnose the problem. I appreciated several things about the Guide. First, it contained quite a bit of information I hadn't found elsewhere. Second, the diagrams -- particularly the nipple wound maps -- were easy to understand and helped me to rule out a number of diagnoses. Third (and most importantly), after I purchased the book, I had an email from Geraldine asking how things were going. When I replied with a brief description of the problems I was having, she wrote back within a matter of hours. That kind of personalized attention is unique.
In the end, I scheduled an appointment for Geraldine to visit me at home. After an hour of meeting with me and my daughter, she recommended several steps to reduce the pain I was feeling while nursing and to make nursing easier for my daughter. These suggestions helped substantially. She also had excellent advice for how to get my daughter (who was 8 weeks old by that time) to take a bottle. My daughter is nearly 6 months old and I am still breast feeding.
Geraldine is incredibly warm and, most unusually, completely non-judgmental when it comes to making decisions about whether or how much to breast feed versus bottle feed. She instantly made me feel comfortable and reassured that I was in professional and knowledgeable hands."

"When I was at my lowest point in those first few weeks after my daughter Sophia was born, Geraldine came highly recommended through a friend of a friend (the trusted mothers’ network!) and through my NCT antenatal class teacher. Sophia was 'colicy' and just wouldn’t sleep, and I was really battling with breastfeeding. Geraldine visited my home, as I was recovering from a c-section, and her visit was like a revelation for me! She got straight to the point after hearing my issues. They were all centered around my milk supplies being too high! I was therefore overfeeding Soph which was making her very windy and as the flow was too fast for her she was not latching well. I remember bursting into tears as I was so upset that I didn’t know all this before, and so happy and relieved that there were things I could do immediately to help Soph. Things like most effective breastfeeding and burping techniques, medication for Soph, how best to settle her and support to routine her. The support was practical and a real turning point for me and Soph. I don’t know how I would have managed without her! Geraldine’s kind and warm nature made all the difference…she genuinely cared. I went on to have another follow on session with Geraldine and she supported me by phone and e-mail as well to give me quick advice. It was like an instant friend who had all the answers!
What made the difference is that she advised me what was best for Sophia. It wasn’t text book advice. It was tailored to suit us as not every baby is the same. From that point on I put down the other books I was referring to and the internet research and bought her e-book and took on board her specific advice for me. Her book re-enforced a lot of what she shared with me in my initial session so it was great to have a quick and easy reference guide to turn to almost on a daily basis in those early weeks. 3 months on I am still referring to it for advice on how to drop feeds for bottle feeds. It all just makes such logical sense. What Geraldine preaches is what every soon to be mother should know before giving birth but generally don’t.
I have recommended Geraldine to everyone I know who is either pregnant or is battling with feeding related issues with their little ones as I am so convinced that a good breastfeeding consultant is essential to develop a healthy and contented baby, as well as for support for Mum!"

"Our son was twelve days overdue and after a late scan discovered that he was breech, I was quickly admitted for a caesarean section.
We stayed in hospital for four days after his birth, as he was having real problems latching on. The midwives were all desperate to help, but no-one seemed to be able to work out why our little boy was not feeding.
We finally went home on the Sunday evening, armed with 4 bottles of ready-made formula, fully expecting that I would never be able to feed my baby myself.
A friend who’d heard of Geraldine and Let’s Breastfeed, suggested we should try to get in touch. We called her that night and we were so relieved when she said she would come to see us the next morning.
Within minutes of walking in to our home Geraldine had spotted the problem, and with a few simple tips, our son was feeding at the breast for the first time since his birth. It was such an emotional moment that I will never forget.
After days of head-scratching with the hospital midwives, it seemed we had found our guardian angel. Geraldine gave me the confidence to realize that my son and I could breastfeed successfully.
He’s now 5 months old and is simply thriving. We will always be grateful for Geraldine’s fantastic support & knowledge. We would never have done it without her.
we keeping meeting other new mums who’ve benefitted from her fantastic support. I truly believe that every mum-to-be, whether it’s their first, second or fifth baby, should read her book & get in touch."
