Hi, My name is Jackie, and I’m one half of The Birth Specialists.
Our book Secrets of Confident Childbirth begins: ‘Let's face it, the prospect of childbirth can be daunting. Nobody tells you how to cope with childbirth. Mostly you hear people say “You just have to get on with it!" or "It's worth it in the end!".’
Mums-to-be are getting their information from friends, family, the media and the internet. But how useful is it? Many of the mums I talk to feel overwhelmed by information and, as some of it is conflicting, they don't know which way to turn. Many will just do nothing and hope that it will be OK on the day.
Look around you and chances are you’ll see lots of mums having traumatic births or medicalised births with babies who cry a lot and are fussy eaters. One thing’s for certain. If you do what they do, you’ll probably have a similar experience.
If you want a different outcome, you have to do something differently. What I love about my work is simplifying and de-mystifying birth. I’m passionate about helping mums-to-be and their partners get the information they need so that birth isn't daunting. I enjoy helping them replace that feeling with confidence and excitement.
There’s never been a better time to be pregnant. Births that need extra help have fantastic medical support available. There are also so many more ways to take birth back to a more natural way of birthing and trusting the body. After all, the body that created this baby knows how to birth this baby.
Whether you want to use our products to create a positive birth experience or you’d rather take a more active role, I can help you achieve the outcome you wish.
I’m happy to discuss various options with you, or to work with you to create a strategic plan for your birth and show you tools and techniques that can make the process easier and more enjoyable. No one can say how your birth will be, but you can take steps to making it the best it can be.
As well as helping parents-to-be, I also lecture to student midwives, speak at midwife study days and organise study days for pregnancy and birth.
Our birthing products are sold worldwide, helping hundreds of women.
