In her own words

Hello, I’m Kairen Cullen and I’m a Chartered Educational Psychologist. I work with children, young people, parents and individual adults to help them achieve educational and personal success. My work can be described as research in practice; I help with a tremendous variety of learning and behavioural issues. I also have four young children of my own.

I work as a Psychologist within family issues including new siblings and sibling rivalry; relationships; holidays and festivals; loss and bereavement, achievement; media involvement; healthy eating and obesity; sleep issues; and alcohol and drugs. School issues include starting/changing/leaving school; home-school collaboration; exams; behavioural difficulties; and expulsions. Specific learning difficulties include dyslexia, dyspraxia, and attention issues. I also focus on key areas affecting school life such as attendance, friendships, bullying, shyness, relationships and sex education.

With adults, I also offer advice on specific learning difficulties of a dyslexic, dyspraxic, dyscalculic and dysgraphic nature. I comprehensively support people with social communication difficulties, lifestyle management and Higher Education choices. I also support people to workplace and home conflict and communication management.

We’ll clarify your questions and the changes you’d like to see happen. I’ll find out as much as possible about the factors and influences that are contributing to your situation, to provide professional advice. I use ‘positive psychology’ with a firm commitment to the Humanistic Psychology principles of acceptance, congruence and empathy I’ll draw on upon a number of applied psychology approaches including cognitive behaviour therapy, art therapy, family therapy, solution focused brief therapy and personal construct psychology. I believe it is essential to 'walk the talk' and to always provide services which I would be happy for myself or a loved one to receive.

Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds parents, carers and individual adults. I’ve received terrifically positive feedback about the difference my advice has made and I look forward to being able to help at Greatvine today,

Kairen

Caller feedback

"I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you for the excellent support you have provided for the students and staff in our school. The individual work and assessments have been very specific and thorough, providing clear advice and recommendations to support meeting the very complex needs of some of our students. The reports are extremely detailed and have enabled the SEN team to successfully support statutory assessments of some of most needy children, which in turn has provided the additional funding to meet their specific needs. External agencies also involved with these particular students have remarked on the clarity and advice recommended in these reports. It is obvious that the service you are providing is of an extremely high standard and your professionalism is highly valued. It has been a real pleasure for the school to have you as part of our team and we look forward to this partnership to continue. Best Wishes, Julie"
Julie Freer, Senior SEN Leader

"I have known Kairen for 16 years. We met whilst undertaking professional training to become applied Educational Psychologists at the Institute of Education, University of London. Our professional relationship continues through regular peer supervision and consultation. Kairen has wide, varied and relevant past experience working in Local Authorities as a teacher in schools and in a behaviour support team and formerly with the Police and nursing. Kairen draws upon her past experiences when working with children and young people and in consultation with their teachers and parents. Kairen has worked in a number of different Local Authority settings as an Educational Psychologist and is now in private practice where her services are in much demand. In particular she has specialised in giving advice and guidance to media programme developers where the psychological well-being of children or young people is a potential issue. She undertakes assessment of individual young people presented by their parents or from self-referral to investigate concerns about learning or disabilities. Kairen shows an ongoing fascination for Psychology and its application and has recently completed a PhD thesis exploring teachers' views. She has good research and analytical skills. Kairen is registered with the Health Professions Council and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Kairen is an active member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Educational and Child Psychology. She has held honorary positions in the executive committee of the fulfilling roles in the past as Chair and Press Committee representative. Kairen contributes regularly to professional journals and other publications relevant to the profession including government consultations, for example childhood obesity where she brings a psychological perspective to issues raised. I have no hesitation in recommending Kairen as a highly experienced, principled and competent professional of great calibre and integrity."
