Katherine is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with over 23 years’ experience in helping mums overcome breastfeeding difficulties and enjoy the experience. She is Tongue-Tie Practitioner in both NHS and Private Practice.
I’m a Lactation Consultant with a special interest and competency in assisting with the following;
Hi, my name is Katherine, I am also known as Katie. I have over 20 years’ experience in helping thousands of mums to overcome breastfeeding difficulties and to enjoy the experience. I was a NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor for 20 years and have been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for 18 years. I am here to help you learn how to have a happy and fulfilling breastfeeding experience with your own baby.
As a Lactation Consultant, I understand the difficulties that some mothers face when approaching breastfeeding. It’s only natural that it will take time, practice and support. I am not a prescriptive practitioner and consider myself to be someone who enables and facilitates good evidenced breastfeeding practice. I pride myself on listening to each individual mother's and her familie's needs and enabling you to feed your baby in the manner that best suits you.
I am fully insured for Lactation Consultancy and hold a current enhanced CRB check.
I have 11 years experience as Lactation Consultant in Private Practice and for the past 5 years in simultaneous NHS practice as the Team Leader of a Tongue Tie Clinic at a London Hospital.
Frenulotomy-Tongue Tie release -I am able to offer this. I have appropriate training from training providers in two separate hospital Trusts and therefore have extended competancy in frenulotomy. In 201o I performed or assisted at more than 900 tongue tie release procedures without incident, and in 2011 more than 700 procedures. I hold current Medical Malpractice Insurance underwritten by Lloyds for both Lactation Consultancy and Frenulotomy certificate number 11/00067570. However when offering /performing Frenulotomy it is in my role as a health professional with extended competancy, and not as a Lactation Consultant.
New with effect from February 2012 for parents preferring a surgeon to undertake their baby's tongue tie release I will be extending my Private Practice to work jointly with Shailesh Patel, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon to offer a Frenulotomy and Lactation Consultancy service at Brigstock Family Practice, 83 Brigstock Rd, Thornton Heath, Surrey, CR7 7JH.
For expert advice from a highly experienced International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, with 18 years of continuous Certification since 1995, please feel free to give me a call.

I very much look forward to speaking with you and being able to help you overcome any breastfeeding difficulties you may be experiencing.
"Just thought I would drop a quick line to say thank you. You helped us out back in January when my son Isaac had tongue tie. He is doing great now and weighing about 17 1/2 lbs. He is very loud and boisterous and loving his food. I managed to keep breastfeeding for 6 months and gave up last week. We can't thank-you enough for your help with him. After speaking to other mothers I am confident I would not have carried on breastfeeding him without your help.
Best wishes, thank-you for your help and I hope you are keeping well.
Louise, ibby and Isaac"

"Katherine was a life saver.
Afonso was diagnosed with a tongue tie at 3 weeks. No matter what midwifes or health advisers would advise, Afonso did not put any significant weight. He wouldn't sleep properly and we were worried sick.
Katie made such a change in our lives. She fixed the tongue tie and went beyond the professional boundaries to support and guide us. Her breasfeeding techniques really do work and she looked at our baby as an individual, not another name in a list.
We are a family on our way to hapiness and we are deeply gratefull to her. Afonso has started to gain weight and is sleeping soundly.
Thank you very much Katie!"

"I downloaded Katherine's 'Breastfeeding - a problem free feed' information sheet and found it to be very informative, particularly about the pre-feeding and post-feeding behaviour and what I can do to calm him after a feed. Thank you for your help Katherine!"

"
When my baby was five weeks old I asked Katie for her advice because my baby seemed to be always hungry and slept very little during the day. Katie showed me her Problem Free Feed method, which was a revelation. I had read and heard a lot of conflicting advice about breastfeeding, but what Katie explained about pre- and post-feeding behaviour, foremilk and hindmilk, etc. made a lot of sense, and it helped me to know when a feed had ended, something which had been a complete mystery until then. Night-time feeding sessions that used to last over an hour and a half now last only half an hour maximum, and I have the confidence to know when my baby has had enough milk. I would recommend all breastfeeding mothers to take a look at the Problem Free Feed sheet -- it made a huge difference to me, and has freed up a lot of time in which I can enjoy my baby's company and in which he can sleep! Besides all this, Katie has been extremely supportive and helpful, and to have someone that knowledgeable and committed helping us cut through the myths and contradictions surrounding breastfeeding has been a godsend."

"The call was very informative - I learnt very important information about breastfeeding. I wish I had made the call sooner after my babies birth..."
Amy
"Had it not have been for the help and support given to us by Katherine I would have stopped Breastfeeding in the first month or two, 8 months on we are still breastfeeding!"
A Happy Mum
"As before, very helpful, but more than that, took a real interest in my problem and was prepared to go to touble to support me."
