Hi, my name is Katherine, I am also known as Katie.
I have over 20 years’ experience in helping thousands of mums to overcome breastfeeding difficulties and to enjoy the experience. I was a NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor for 20 years and have been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for 18 years. I am here to help you learn how to have a happy and fulfilling breastfeeding experience with your own baby.
As a Lactation Consultant, I understand the difficulties that some mothers face when approaching breastfeeding, particularly I am aware of the amount of conflicting advice that is given to parents and how this creates a sense of confusion over the ‘right way’ of doing things. For many mothers, it does take time, practice and support to develop their breast feeding relationship.
I am not a prescriptive practitioner and consider myself to be someone who enables and facilitates good evidenced breastfeeding practice. I pride myself on listening to each individual mother's and her family’s needs and enabling you to feed your baby in the manner that best suits you.
My method are built from these experiences, and consequently many parents have told me that my method dispels myths and clarifies conflicting advice they have been given. You can read more about my method in the Problem Free Feed Download.
I have 11 years experience as Lactation Consultant in Private Practice and for the past 5 years in simultaneous NHS practice as the Team Leader of a Tongue Tie Clinic at a London Hospital. Over the years I have also built a reputation for having specialist competencies in helping women with particularly complex problems, in particular in those mothers with associated medical challenges.
As a mother myself, having breast fed all three of my children not without difficulty, I understand the need for you to have quick access to support at the time you need it. I am very responsive, I respond to all messages or phone calls the same day.
Tongue Tie release - Frenulotomy
I have appropriate training from two separate hospital Trusts and therefore have extended competency in tongue-tie release (also called frenulotomy) and am able to offer this procedure.
I have performed more than 3000 frenulotomies in both NHS and my own private practice without adverse incidence. I hold current Medical Malpractice Insurance underwritten by Lloyds for both Lactation Consultancy and Frenulotomy certificate number2012/0069745
For parents preferring a surgeon to undertake their baby's tongue tie release I run a private practice (Croydon Tongue-Tie Clinic) jointly with Mr Shailesh Patel, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon where we offer a joint Frenulotomy and Lactation Consultancy service. Our clinic runs on a Friday morning at East Croydon Medical centre a GP practice close to East Croydon British Rail Station.
The fee for frenulotomy with myself includes two follow up appointments, offering not only good value but also these appointments ensure that that the incidence of recurrence and the need for surgical revision is negligible, they also ensure that you and baby progress rapidly through your breast feeding difficulties. Fees structure on application, for both my practice and Croydon Tongue-Tie Clinic.
To read more about tongue-tie, including how it might affect breast feeding, the different types and how they are assessed and treated please see my Tongue-Tie Download.
For appointments and enquiries call me on my speak now number, all calls and messages will be answered the same day.
I update my practice on a daily basis and continue to learn from the individual breastfeeding journeys of the many families I work with. I receive on-going clinical governance from my work in the NHS and my joint practice with a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon.
I am fully insured for both Frenulotomy and Lactation Consultancy and undertake a thorough audit of my practice on a monthly basis, using the feedback I receive to develop my practice and ensure I am delivering the very best care.
I am fully insured for Lactation Consultancy and hold a current enhanced CRB check.

I very much look forward to speaking with you and being able to help you overcome any breastfeeding difficulties you may be experiencing
"Just thought I would drop a quick line to say thank you. You helped us out back in January when my son Isaac had tongue tie. He is doing great now and weighing about 17 1/2 lbs. He is very loud and boisterous and loving his food. I managed to keep breastfeeding for 6 months and gave up last week. We can't thank-you enough for your help with him. After speaking to other mothers I am confident I would not have carried on breastfeeding him without your help.
Best wishes, thank-you for your help and I hope you are keeping well.
Louise, ibby and Isaac"
"Katherine was a life saver.
Afonso was diagnosed with a tongue tie at 3 weeks. No matter what midwifes or health advisers would advise, Afonso did not put any significant weight. He wouldn't sleep properly and we were worried sick.
Katie made such a change in our lives. She fixed the tongue tie and went beyond the professional boundaries to support and guide us. Her breasfeeding techniques really do work and she looked at our baby as an individual, not another name in a list.
We are a family on our way to hapiness and we are deeply gratefull to her. Afonso has started to gain weight and is sleeping soundly.
Thank you very much Katie!"
"I downloaded Katherine's 'Breastfeeding - a problem free feed' information sheet and found it to be very informative, particularly about the pre-feeding and post-feeding behaviour and what I can do to calm him after a feed. Thank you for your help Katherine!"
When my baby was five weeks old I asked Katie for her advice because my baby seemed to be always hungry and slept very little during the day. Katie showed me her Problem Free Feed method, which was a revelation. I had read and heard a lot of conflicting advice about breastfeeding, but what Katie explained about pre- and post-feeding behaviour, foremilk and hindmilk, etc. made a lot of sense, and it helped me to know when a feed had ended, something which had been a complete mystery until then. Night-time feeding sessions that used to last over an hour and a half now last only half an hour maximum, and I have the confidence to know when my baby has had enough milk. I would recommend all breastfeeding mothers to take a look at the Problem Free Feed sheet -- it made a huge difference to me, and has freed up a lot of time in which I can enjoy my baby's company and in which he can sleep! Besides all this, Katie has been extremely supportive and helpful, and to have someone that knowledgeable and committed helping us cut through the myths and contradictions surrounding breastfeeding has been a godsend."
"The call was very informative - I learnt very important information about breastfeeding. I wish I had made the call sooner after my babies birth..."
"Had it not have been for the help and support given to us by Katherine I would have stopped Breastfeeding in the first month or two, 8 months on we are still breastfeeding!"
A Happy Mum
"As before, very helpful, but more than that, took a real interest in my problem and was prepared to go to touble to support me."
