Hi there, I’m Louise Gibbs and I’m a specialist paediatric allergy nurse who began to create a unique Baby Signing system when I had my own child. Today, I help parents to communicate with their babies; I also work within paediatric nursing with a very senior consultant in private practice.

I qualified as a paediatric nurse at the University of Surrey with a BSc Honours degree, graduating in 1998. However, nothing from my professional life had quite prepared me for the experience of trying to communicate with my first baby. I soon discovered that having a newborn was not as easy as I thought it would be. I began to apply my nursing knowledge of communication, child development and sign language to develop a way of communicating with her. The end result was that I created a new and effective Baby Signing system that I can very quickly teach you to use. The feedback I get from parents is extremely gratifying - my work creates a very special bond. You are crucially able to talk to your baby before language arrives. I have also found my own daughter has now developed language abilities beyond her years.

I can help you with most childhood illnesses, including those related to childhood allergies. Common topics here include food or drug allergies, allergic asthma or eczema and allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis - or you may need help for a different allergy altogether. I can also advise on child development and the milestones parents need to observe. This can include the language acquisition and skills that they develop into their range of communication. As a matter of course, I take a detailed history on the phone, to make sure I support you in a truly holistic way. Often this means I’ll take the time to ask you about the current problem you’re calling about, plus past medical history, family and social history. I will then be able to advise you on a full and effective solution to your child’s needs. This applies whether you are calling for support with a medical condition or communication needs.
