Specialities

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has been shown to be highly effective for treating many psychological difficulties, and is regularly cited by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) as the first line treatment for disorders such as depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and many more. Some more psychological difficulties CBT has been scientifically proven to be highly effective in treating are: • Anxiety • Panic/phobias • Trauma • Sexual abuse • OCD • Eating disorders • Psychosis • Bipolar disorder • Body dysmorphic disorder • Personality problems • Chronic fatigue syndrome • Depression • Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) • Adjustment disorder • Low self-esteem • Substance misuse/dual diagnosis • Pain management • Sexual dysfunction • Complex grief • Morbid jealousy As well as having extensive experience in the above areas, I’m an expert and specialist in post-traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, addictions and anxiety disorders.

In his own words

I am a consultant psychotherapist and clinical lead for psychotherapy in a forensic setting. I’m also a qualified eye movement desensitisation (EMDR) practitioner, an expert in addictions and accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

My 21-year experience in the NHS has seen me work in a variety of settings including acute psychiatry, primary care psychology (recent onset, less complex psychological problems), and secondary care psychology (severe and enduring psychological and psychiatric problems). My postgraduate specialist training is in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy.

I work in forensic psychology during the day, but also have an extremely successful private practice that deals predominantly with medico-legal related problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder and trauma, but also for a variety of other psychological difficulties presented by people self-referring to my clinic. In 2007 I was referred and recommended by solicitors to the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) as an expert witness for inclusion on their database. I have many referrals through recommendation and word of mouth, and was commended as being among the top three psychotherapists in the country by one particular medico-legal company.
